Iran launches its first National Strategic Plan to step up the battle against climate change
Iran launched a national strategic plan today aimed at helping the country to adapt and mitigate to risks from climate change.

Once famed for their natural beauty, Iran’s rangeland plains have become seriously degraded through unsustainable use and drought. Intensive cattle-farming has stripped the land of vegetation, leaving bare soil that the wind stirs into dust. Forests have been cut by people seeking wood for fuel, leading to further decline, air pollution as the wood is burned and the destruction of valuable biodiversity.
Iran and UNDP strengthen efforts to combat desertification
Today, around the world, over 250 million people are directly affected by desertification. About 1 billion people – in over 110 countries – are currently at risk of its consequences.
DS-WAS will contribute to UN Conference on sand and dust storms to be held in Tehran
SDS-WAS contributes to the International Conference on Combating Sand and Dust Storms to be held in Tehran on 3-5 July 2017. The International Conference will be hosted by the Department of Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the cooperation of the Department of relevant UN entities.
Mediterranean Forest Week Support the Achievement of the Bonn Challenge and SDG15
In "the Fifth Mediteranean Week, held in Agadir, Morocco, on March 24, 2017 with a commitment endorsed by Iran as well as Algeria, France, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey with strong support by several international organizations in line with improving Forest and Landscape Restoration (FLR), Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) and biodiversity conservation efforts in the Mediterranean region.

Khodakaram Jalali, Deputy Minister and Head of Forests, Range and Watershed Management in the meeting with the of Ethiopian delegation, headed by Deputy Minister for Ethiopian Livestock and Fishery Reserves stated that one hectare of watershed activities can infiltrate and reserve 250 cubic meters of water in underground aquifers.
